How to make a Fixed Nav Bar with AdSense Link Units on WordPress

I guess the long hiatus is really over now for me and this blog. So here I am again, making another post. Besides, its already a year since this domain got registered and only by now I feels like being active to post.

Lets jump to the main topic. Do you notice the floating and fixed bar on this blog? If yes, then your eyes is working fine! Its kinda pretty on Chrome and Firefox, but it sucks on IE. Lets just don’t use that browser anymore. Haha.

As mentioned on my previous post about adsense ad placements suggestions, the ad links above performs really great. I get most of my clicks from that unit. That’s why I had implemented them all in my sites.

this is what I am talking about.

Today I will share the code, and spoon feed everything. Haha. Thanks to sir Jehz, for letting me steal the codes from his site. :D

Open your Themes Editor and place this code right after the tag on your header.php file.

Just place your 728×15 link unit ad code on where it should be.

Then after that, edit your stylesheet file, which is the style.css file and add this code:

Just change the background-color value to match the style on the link unit you had created for this.

That’s it! Really simple as that. If you might ask if you will get banned with that, you won’t. Sir Jehzeel uses that for a very long time, and I have been using it for quite some couple of months already. Also, I am always receiving personalized suggestions on ways how can I increase my AdSense earnings from AdSense itself. That just means that they are already seeing my ad placements and they did not hate it.

Verify your Paypal using Unionbank EON Card

I finally have a verified Paypal account! Yay!

We all know that VCC method is good, and fast, but actually it isn’t cheaper and you cant withdraw the money on the ATM or bank. Much worst, if your account got some limitation or problems, you have no statements to show, for an evidence of your ownership of the card. Because its virtual.

That is really not good. So I wanna share you my experience on my paypal verifcation using Unionbank.

First, you need to have an EON CARD, from Unionbank. It is the most advisable one you should get if you wanted to verify your paypal, with withdrawal capability. You might also wanted to read my other post: Verify Paypal, and BDO, and find out why you should choose Unionbank’s EON Account.

How to Apply for an EON Account at Unionbank

First, apply online through their website. Just go to http://unionbankph.com and click on EON > EON Online Application and then choose Apply Now.

Its all basic! I chose STUDENT on the Occupation field, because I am really is a student. :P thats why there is no required SSS/TIN/UMID anymore.
Then after a day or two, you can now make your personal appearance at the Unionbank Branch you had selected on the online application form.
Be sure to bring two valid ID’s. You can see the list of valid ID’s from the EON page on their website. As for me, I only brought my NSO Certified Birth Certificate and my School ID. If you are bringing your school ID, be sure also to bring your enrolment registration form. They might ask for it too. Ensure a photocopy of those documents.
Make the necessary payments. Pay P350 for the annual fee. Get your EON Card. You can also make your first deposit right-away. I had made a deposit of P200 that time, for PayPal Verification purposes.
Your card isn’t active yet. Wait for 48hrs and then enroll your card for Online Banking (on the unionbank website). This is for you to access your account directly, online.
You have to wait another day or two before your Online Banking application is approved. When its now okay, you can now start the paypal verification major steps.
Log in to your Paypal Account, Link your credit/debit card. Choose VISA and supply the necessary fields (Card Number, Expiration Date, CSV – can be found on the back of the card). If you get an error message of: “This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your…”, dont panic. Its normal. Reasons might be: 1. No balance yet or haven’t made a transaction yet. To solve this, just make a P200 deposit. But if you did the same way that I had did, already deposited P200, you just have to wait few more days and try again.
After successfully adding your credit card, paypal will charge your account a total of 2USD, as for me, it was P99. It will be refunded back to you after the process.
Check out your account through the online banking. Look for the most recent transaction. You can find the EXPUSE code paypal requires. It is found on the transaction name, the 4 digits number after the P* on the transaction name. Take note of that.
Log into your paypal again. Input the EXPUSE code. Youre done! Congratulations, you have successfully verified your account.

Now, you can now withdraw funds from paypal, straight to your unionbank account and then withdraw it on any ATM’s using your EON card.

I had done that steps on my new paypal account because I was unable to access my first paypal account. I have no choice but to regret the fact that I cannot get my money there anymore. I’ll tell the story about it in the future. But that is life, I have to move on. Its just money. :P

How to Receive Money from MoneyGram

I felt so blessed to find out that I had won the contest of alohagems online. Just in time when I really need money, a blessing had happened.

I actually haven’t verified my paypal yet. Took too long eh? I got some problems and I’ll tell it on my next posts. Heheh. :P thats why I didn’t opt out to receive the cash prize via Paypal. I requested it to be sent on me via money transfer. Ms. Shirley was really kind. She had sent me the money the next morning and shouldered part of the sending fee.

And she had used Moneygram. Its my first time to receive via Moneygram. I used to hear this but I am not really sure where I could find the place I can claim the sent money. So I decided to google some data.

I looked for Moneygram locations near our place.

Using this site: http://moneygram.com/wps/portal/moneygramonline/home/locations I was able to find the nearest agents locations for me.

Seeing the results, I then had found out that Moneygram is a part of Cebuana Lhuiller and M. Lhuiller. That lead me to think of where I should go, I then decided to pick Cebuana Lhuiller, coz it was the first one I knew actually.

So much for the story. Claiming was easy. All I did was:

1. Filled up the form.
2. Presented my ID.
3. Wait, and then done! ^_^

My ID presented was a school ID, unvalidated yet for this school year. lels. Good thing I always bring myself my reg. form. I was asked many times by different institutions/agencies, when I showed my ID, the proof of my enrolment. It’s a good thing, as a student, you should bring it always.

If it was your first time on receiving, they might ask you more info’s. Just like in Western Union. :P anyways, this transaction of mine had never lasted for 10 mins, it was fast. Cebuana L, has less boxes to fill up. Hahah.

How to choose a domain name for your Blog

Choosing the right and most fitting domain name for your blog might be hard at some time. Its like naming your baby. It’s actually a long term decision if you are going to invest serious time and attention on your blog-to-be. If you cannot really decide what domain to choose, here are some points you might consider for choosing a domain name.

Choosing a domain name

If you are blogging for a certain niche, choose a domain name that contains your niche keyword. It will help you in SEOing your blog.
Think of a domain name that is short and will be easily remembered. Who would ever care to type www.MySuperDuperCoolDomainNameInTheWorldOhYeahBabyBabyOh.com in their url bar just to go to your website? None.
Make your own brand. This is something cool. You think of anything that is so unique in a way that youre the only one that used that term. Simply just make your own name! It can be your childhood nick name, or a random word you’ve heard/read even from the books or streets. It maybe weird or corny but it will be good. Just ensure that it doesn’t kill the previous point.
If you cant really come up with a new brand, try using Anagrams. Anagram-ate your name! Yes, just scramble the letters of your name and see if you can come up with a word and use it as your domain name.
Avoid hypens and numbers if you can. Its not really a rule but, sometimes it used to be a cause of domain typing typo’s. But for me, I think adding suffix -101 is a good choice. ie; draw101.com another hypenated domain that I hail is; jehzlau-concepts.com so this point somehow seems pointless. lol
Go for the dot.com! That was elementary! Just go for it when you actually can.
Choose a domain name that is available. This one is a common sense-enabler. :D
Think about it many times! When you had thought about it ten times, think about it again and make it twenty times. Seems like its an OA act, but I just want you to not regret your decision.

Then buy it as soon as possible. You’ll never know if someone will take it before you. Heheh. Thinking about a domain name is really hard especially if you are like me, a commoner blogger. :D

Sometimes, suggestions from other people somehow can help you to think more ideas and come up with a better pick. How I came up with IanTamad.com is with the aid of that tips. Even if I failed to end up with the anagram I had came up. But anyways, I love my domain, “it’s really me”. ^_^

How to Set up a self-hosted WordPress Blog in 30 seconds

Say, you now have a host and domain already managed and running, now you wanted to make a site powered by WordPress. Here are simple steps to get you started, its really easy!

Setup a WordPress Blog from your Hosting cPanel

Installing WordPress is not a hard thing to do due to the help of script auto-installers. This is what I have done to setup this blog, IanTamad.com. Here are the steps:

On your hosting cPanel, Click Fantastico Deluxe.
Choose WordPress from the selection of scripts you can install.
Click on New Installation.
Then fill-up the necessary details. Submit.
Click on Finish Installation, and you are done! :D

That’s it! You now have your very own self-hosted WordPress Blog done in just 30 seconds or less. Just what I had done.

Note that this is via a web hosting that provides cPanel11. Other hosting management panels takes a little more steps at it, but the process is somehow the same. Just the script installer name different, and a few steps added such as creating databases. Which is automatic in hosts with cPanel Web Hosting. That’s why I love cPanel11.

Watch out for the next posts as I will share my ideas that might be useful to those who are new into Blogging.
